Our Approach

Honouring the bond you share.

I started Gentle Goodbye Vet because I believe the final chapter of a pet's life should be written with love — in a space where they feel most secure. For many animals a clinic is unfamiliar and stressful, and I wanted to offer something quieter.

With over a decade of veterinary experience, I now focus on palliative care and gentle home euthanasia, treating every pet with the same tenderness I'd give my own.

How we support you

We understand how difficult this journey is. Our process is designed to be as gentle and unhurried as possible — for both you and your pet.

1

Initial Guidance

A phone call, message or email conversation to talk through your pet's health, your wishes, and any questions about timing or the process. No pressure — just support.

2

A Peaceful Visit

We arrive at your home unhurried. A gentle sedative comes first so your pet drifts into a deep, painless sleep in your arms or their favourite spot.

3

Aftercare Coordination

We can arrange individual cremation and the return of ashes through a trusted partner, or support a home burial — whichever feels right.

Common Questions

You may be wondering…

How do I know when it's time?
It's one of the hardest questions. We're happy to talk it through with you over the phone — looking at comfort, mobility, appetite, and the small daily joys. A quality-of-life conversation can bring clarity without pressure.
What does the visit look like?
We come to your home, sit with you and your pet, and explain each step. After a sedation injection, your pet falls into a deep sleep within minutes. The final injection is given only when you're ready.
Can the whole family — including other pets — be present?
Absolutely. Children and other pets are welcome to be part of the goodbye. Many families find it helps everyone, including surviving animals, to understand.
How much does it cost?
Our in-home visits start from $500. An additional fee may apply for larger animals, travel outside of central Auckland, and after-hours appointments. Cremation services — either individual cremation with your pet's ashes returned, or group cremation without ashes returned — can also be arranged at an additional cost, which we'll discuss with you beforehand. We'll always confirm everything clearly before you decide to go ahead.
